Well over two decades have passed since the medical community first identified human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the virus that causes AIDS. Since then, it has claimed the lives of over 25 million individuals worldwide. In Tanzania, seven of every 100 adults are HIV-positive, and its effects have reverberated throughout society, most significantly among children. 5. Survival is the First Freedom

6. Anti-Corruption Capacity Building Initiative: 

Training Toolkit.  This Toolkit, developed under a grant from Pact Tanzania and the US government by Haki Kazi Catalyst.  The document provides simple explanations of good governance.  The toolkit also outlines the steps Civil Society Organizations can take to combat corruption and ensure positive governance is taking place in their communities. >> More

Sarah Newhall (L), President and CEO of Pact and Lyndon Haviland, Pact’s Vice board chair, visited Tanzania in February 2008 regarding Pact’s WORTH Village Banking initiative.WORTH is an award-winning approach that links business, banking, and literacy so that poor women can create wealth and become leaders for change in their communities. Sarah and Lyndon met with a wide variety of thought leaders and development actors to discuss launching the WORTH social franchise. Similar to what happens in a commercial franchise, a social franchise builds its expansion strategy on a brand and a track record of demonstrated success. 2. More than 890 children reached with Anti-Stigma training by Jane Goodall's Roots and Shoots Program

Pact Tanzania, through the Jali Watoto Initiative, funded Roots & Shoots/Jane Goodall Institute to implement the Anti-Stigma Project in Dar es Salaam, Kigoma, Kagera, Mara and Coast regions. This project was implemented in two phases between June and October 2006.   Pact provided a sub-grant of $92,000 for this activity.>> More
